Water

Water is a vital resource in life that we use for drinking, hygiene, food production, cooking, energy generation, industry, transport, and recreation. Armenia is a relatively freshwater-rich country, yet many of its regions suffer from water shortages and insecurity due to resource mismanagement and infrastructure. Climate change and future forecasts estimate further water shortages in the region. The AUA Acopian Center for the Environment is involved in teaching, research and policy work to develop hydrobiological monitoring tools, ensure sustainable water usage in Armenia, improve water quality. The Center is also involved in the national water governance discourse and collaborates with multiple national and global institutions to ensure water security in the region. Additionally, the AUA Acopian Center is involved in several large regional projects to develop state-of-the-art tools and water monitoring platforms, including digital-twin of the marine environments.
