Green Economy online training for Armenia

Project Name: Green Economy online training for Armenia
Project Start Date: 31 March, 2023
Project End Date: 30 November, 2023
Project Funding: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

About the Project:

The  American University of Armenia (AUA) Acopian Center for the Environment will host and promote the “Introduction to Green Economy” online course among civil servants (and other audiences) in Armenia. The course is a self-paced interactive online course, which is currently hosted on the “UN CC: Learn” (UN Climate Change Learning Partnership) e-learning platform in multiple languages. It has been developed by UNEP and the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Objective of the Project:

The main objective of the project is to advance the integration of Green Economy (GE) considerations into learning activities and programs available to civil servants, as well as the broader population in Armenia. This involves the promotion of the course among stakeholder groups, networks, and institutions, as well as the integration of the course into existing training packages that are delivered to civil servants and/or academia and other stakeholders on a regular basis. The AUA Acopian Center for the Environment will coordinate technical arrangements for the course to host it on its own website/learning platform and make it available to the public.

Activity 1. Provide the online premises and facilitate technical arrangements to host the course on a national online platform
Activity 2. Promote and disseminate the course among civil servants
Activity 3. Integrate the course into at least three additional training packages
Activity 4. Develop a roadmap for further promoting the course and broadening the offer of other green economy e-learning products in Armenia

This course will introduce to the basic concepts, policy instruments, and international frameworks of inclusive green economies. The course consists of five modules which are divided into smaller sections. The learner can start with any module depending on their preference.

This free e-learning experience has been designed to equip learners with a mental compass as they seek answers to basic questions about inclusive green economies.

The course provides clear, concise, and up-to-date information for anybody interested in obtaining a general understanding of inclusive green economies. The course should be of particular interest to the following audiences:

-Civil servants in national ministries, sub-national departments and local authorities

-Environmental managers in private sector and civil society organizations

-Faculty, researchers, and students

-Interested citizens

The course enables learners to familiarize themselves with the rationale and core concepts guiding an inclusive green economy. It discusses both opportunities and challenges at the global and national levels to achieve low-carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive development.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

-Describe the rationale and core concepts for realizing an inclusive green economy against business-as-usual practices

-Identify enabling conditions for greening national economies

-Outline principal opportunities and challenges in key sectors

-Provide examples of national strategies and planning to advance an inclusive green economy
