Taponathon

As part of its commitment to advancing sustainable waste management in Armenia, the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, through its Sweden-funded Waste Policy Armenia (WPA) program, successfully concluded the “Taponathon” Youth Innovation Challenge from July 13 to 20, 2025. The initiative brought together motivated young people from across the country to develop creative, practical solutions to Armenia’s
pressing waste challenges.

A Week of Innovation and Collaboration

Over 30 participants — including students, young professionals, and civic-minded individuals — engaged in an intensive program combining expert-led workshops, mentorship sessions, and hands-on project development.
Using principles of design thinking, circular economy, and sustainable entrepreneurship, participants addressed issues such as landfill remediation, litter reduction, food waste prevention, and environmental education.

Highlighted Projects

  • Green Vibes – Eco-fences from recycled materials and green space creation in Drakhtik.
  • AshAway – Portable, stylish ashtrays to reduce cigarette litter.
  • EcoNauts – Eco-themed educational board games for children.
  • Patarik – Mobile app connecting surplus food sources with consumers.
  • Eco-Wonders – School-based paper recycling competitions.
  • Kanach Kensikner (Green Lifers) – Community composting model for agricultural waste.

Impact and Next Steps
