Conference on Independent Environmental Monitoring of Mining Communities
AUA Center for Responsible Mining’s “Independent Environmental Monitoring of Mining Communities” project presentation and discussion
AUA Center for Responsible Mining’s “Independent Environmental Monitoring of Mining Communities” Project Presentation and discussion will be held at Alex and Marie Manoogian Hall of the American University of Armenia. Participants of the event will include representatives of the RA Government, local government, civil society organizations, mining companies, schools and kindergarten directors, international donor organizations, and development partners. The project, launched in 2015, enabled soil and drinking water testing in the schools and kindergartens in 10 mining communities of Armenia, in which a total of 25 kindergartens and 27 schools were tested. The project was made possible with the support of ONE Armenia’s crowdfunding campaign “Let’s Protect Armenia from Toxic Pollution,” equipment donation by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and financial support from the British Embassy Yerevan and several private donors. The US Embassy also played a crucial role in launching the crowdfunding campaign and mobilizing donors. The final reports are available at https://crm.aua.am/independentmonitoring/.
