The Biogas Pre-Feasibility Study for Armenia was launched under the Waste Policy Armenia (WPA) program, funded by Sweden and implemented by the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment. Carried out by the Danish engineering consultancy Renew Energy A/S, the study explores the technical, economic, and environmental potential of biogas development in Armenia. It provides a phased implementation roadmap aimed at supporting climate mitigation, rural development, and circular economy objectives.

The study was conceived within Energy4Climate, a joint initiative of the AUA EPIC and AUA Acopian Center, which promotes climate innovation and entrepreneurship in Armenia.
The study findings are being used to shape and promote Armenia’s emerging national agenda on biogas. Beyond technical insights, the study serves as a strategic input into high-level policymaking on green economy transition, energy diversification, and sustainable bio-waste management. It supports Armenia’s goals for energy and food security, and informs the development of national frameworks for GHG emissions reduction and climate resilience, including alignment with the country’s NDC commitments under the Paris Agreement. The study also provides a robust foundation for advocacy, investment planning, and policy dialogue around climate-smart infrastructure and circular economy solutions.
